What Questions should we ask our DJ before booking? …and some short answers from June

Can we choose the music you play?

It may be you have been to a wedding recently and thought the music played was awful. This might be because the DJ was not reading the floor or had a limited collection of music. It also might mean they were tailoring the music to that specific couple and they had a quite different taste in music to you. Most DJs who have experience will want to read the dance floor but will be happy to take some requests before the day to have a feel for your music taste. It is right to have elements of the music attuned to you as a couple, it is your day after all. The age of Spotify playlists can mean that clients can have very set ideas of what  they want to hear. Bear in mind that what sounds good in the car or at home might not be a great hit on the floor. Part of making a good party is ensuring that as many people as possible feel included.

June: We have an on line planner for advance requests and will happily take guest requests within parameters agreed between you and us

Please can we see pictures of the set up?

Your DJ should be able to do this, however, there are many styles of set up. Some DJs will give you a choice of style, some have only one, some DJ companies will send a sub contracted DJ along and it may not be possible to see what will be provided. If you are booking your wedding 2 years in advance, then the DJ may upgrade or change style in that time, but if you keep in touch you can confirm what the situation is and ask for an update.

Can we see Reviews from past clients?

It will be important to see others’ experiences are of your entertainer. If the DJ hasn’t done a wedding before then you would be wise to find out what they intend to do to prepare. Is there a DJ mentor they can work with to prepare for your special day? If there are no on line reviews can they give you the phone number of a past client (with permission) to talk to? The safest choice is to choose someone with experience and good reviews.

June: Please see our feedback on this site, Hitched, Google and more.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance and is your equipment PAT tested?

This is a basic. Many DJ associations- NADJ, MDJN offer PLI as part of the membership. Many venues having had bad experience of amateur DJs will insist that these documents are presented by the entertainer to be permitted on the premises. Some venues will also request a risk assessment. If your venue requests this ensure your DJ can supply one.

June: We have both!

Can we meet our DJ?

Some companies don’t tell you who will be attending your wedding. A personal touch of meeting the DJ helps you feel secure that your wedding is in good hands. It is good to speak face to face, either on zoom or in person.

June: We always like to meet you at the time of booking and along the journey. One of the gifts of the pandemic is the introduction of zoom. We use zoom in most cases, but sometimes meet in person if it suits both you and us.

What other services do you offer?

This can be very important to get a good connection and communication going with your DJ. If you would like to meet at the venue, many DJs will oblige. If this is not practical then an on line meeting via zoom or other technology is a good idea. If your DJ does not want to do this it might be worth asking why. It may be if they are part time their time is limited, or there may be another reason.

June: We have all day wedding service, Selfie Wizard, up lighting, Monogram Lights and a giant chess set!
